August 5, 2014 – Emma-Kate Lidbury is an exciting talent in the elite endurance world and this professional triathlete has a lot more to her than meets the eye. Her athletic resume is an impressive one – she has two top ten finishes at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship plus six Ironman 70.3 titles – but her strengths don’t stop there. She is also a former journalist with an acute understanding of the media world and boasts a notable sports science background.
Lidbury’s road to professional sports is an inspiring and unusual one. It was while working as a newspaper journalist in her native England that she was asked to participate in a triathlon as part of a feature. “Against my better will and judgment I did it,” Lidbury says. “And my life has never been the same since.”
That was 2005. By the end of 2008, Lidbury had won medals at national, European and World Championships as an amateur and knew it was time to leave journalism and turn professional. And although her early pro seasons were tough, she is now an accomplished racer who has set her sights on becoming a world champion.
As an intelligent, articulate woman with obvious talent, dedication and drive, she is clearly a source of inspiration for others and has more than a decade’s experience of training the body and mind to be fit, well and healthy. She is based in Southern California and travels extensively throughout the US to race on the Ironman 70.3 circuit. She is commonly known as “Eccles” – a type of English cake – by friends and team mates and is particularly passionate about inspiring other women to be fit, well and healthy.
Emma-Kate’s upcoming races:
Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens, August 17
Ironman 70.3 World Championships, September 7
Beijing International Triathlon, September 14
**She will compete in her first Ironman at the end of November 2014.
