The City of El Segundo’s Annual Champions of Business Celebration
Honors Hackman Capital Partners’ CEO Michael Hackman, TechStyle
Fashion Group, and Melanie Stricklan of Slingshot Aerospace


EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — October 2, 2019 — The City of El Segundo and the El Segundo Economic Development Advisory Council (EDAC) hosted the sixth annual Champions of Business Celebration on Thursday, Sept. 26th at the Toyota Sports Performance Center - Home of the LA Kings. The evening’s keynote speech was given by Luc Robitaille, president of the LA Kings and hockey legend. The MC was LA Kings radio analyst Daryl Evans.

A city with vibrant economic development growth, El Segundo annually recognizes local business leaders’ contributions to the city at the Champions of Business Celebration. This year, city and business leaders gathered to honor Michael Hackman, CEO of Hackman Capital Partners, a Los Angeles-based real estate investment and operating company with a strong foothold in El Segundo. Past honorees include Jeanie Buss, owner and president of the Los Angeles Lakers (2018); Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, CEO of NantWorks (2017); Richard Lundquist, president of Continental Development Corp. (2016); Federal Realty Investment Trust and The Point (2015); and the LA Kings (2014). As a past honoree of the Champion of Business award in 2017, Dr. Soon-Shiong presented the Champion of Business award to Hackman and recounted anecdotes of their shared journey to create big ideas and boost El Segundo’s economic landscape.

El Segundo is consistently one of the hottest commercial real estate markets in the region, and Hackman Capital Partners recognizes the many advantages of doing business in the city. With properties across Los Angeles in its portfolio, including CBS Television City and Manhattan Beach Studios, Hackman Capital Partners has been expanding its reach within El Segundo with the acquisition of industrial office buildings at 888 N. Douglas Street and 401 Coral Circle. Hackman Capital Partners acquired 888 N. Douglas from defense giant Northrop Grumman and is transforming the historic aerospace site into a one-of-a-kind creative campus.

In addition to the presentation of the Champion of Business Award, the below honorees were announced during the event:

Thorsten Struck, Chief Financial Officer, TechStyle Fashion Group - Big Idea Award, awarded to an exciting business or organization that is reshaping the world through their innovations. TechStyle Fashion Group was honored for its unique approach in merging advanced technology with the latest fashion trends to offer an entirely new shopping experience to millions of people worldwide.

Melanie Stricklan, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Slingshot Aerospace - Entrepreneur of the Year Award, awarded to an individual who demonstrates outstanding commitment to business growth and leadership. Stricklan was honored for her strong vision in aerospace and artificial intelligence technology that she brings to Slingshot Aerospace, the advanced analytics company she co-founded that has raised more than $9 million in funding.
