Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ Celebrates
1,500th Performance in Riviera May

Mexico City, April 9, 2019 – Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ, the only Cirque du Soleil show in the world that includes a gastronomic experience, will celebrate its 1,500th performance on April 17, 2019.

Inspired by Mexican history and culture, the jaw-dropping show is an original, multisensory experience that has captivated over 800,000 guests since its debut in 2014.

Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ takes place at Vidanta’s Cirque du Soleil Theater in Riviera Maya, an architectural wonder overlooking the Mayan Jungle, with weekly shows running from Tuesday to Saturday. The show covers diverse historic and cultural topics from the asteroid that fell in the Yucatan peninsula 66 million years ago and caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs, to Diego Rivera, the Central Library of the UNAM, and Guillermo del Toro.

For 1,500 performances, audiences have entered the Cirque du Soleil Theater, meant to mimic a large cenote among the mangroves, that is perched above a massive lagoon and overlooks the Mayan Jungle. From the architecture of the theater and throughout the show, Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ pays homage to the lush environment around it.

Different from other Cirque du Soleil shows around the world, JOYÀ is the only show to offer guests a dinner experience before they enjoy the show. Each show includes 200 three-course dinners, 1428 gourmet canapes, over 200 bottles of champagne and a team of more than 300 people, all working around the clock to help make the show a resounding success.

“The 330 employees, from the 40 onstage artists, many of which are Olympic athletes, to the box office clerks and those behind the scenes, sincerely thank fans from all over the world that have traveled to enjoy Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ over the last five years,” said Norma Preciado, Lifestyle and Entertainment Marketing Director for Grupo Vidanta. “Reaching the 1500th show is a collective achievement, and we look forward to the next 1500.”
