PORTOLA HOTEL & SPA HOSTS ‘PAW-TY’ DOG ADOPTION AND CHARITY EVENT
The Monterey Hotel Celebrates National Adopt a Dog Month With Adoption Day and Charity Gala

Monterey, CA., August 28, 2019 — Portola Hotel & Spa, the elegant Four-Diamond hotel situated along Central California’s Monterey Bay, is proud to partner with Tito’s Vodka to create a Paw-ty for the entire family. In honor of National Adopt a Dog Month in October, the pet-friendly property is hosting a dog and kitten adoption day on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 12pm-3pm on the newly renovated outdoor terrace.

Free and open to the public, the day will consist of entertainment, children’s activities, food and drink specials, and of course, the pet adoption. 102.1 KRML will be broadcasting live from the event, with an array of children’s activities available including face painting, caricature artist and a self-guided treasure hunt!

For those 21 and older, guests can head to the Titos Tent for drink and food specials, including two tacos, a hot dog or cheese nachos for $5. If you have your furry friend in tow, check out the Bark Bowls menu so your four-legged companion can dine just like their humans. Proceeds from the Titos drink specials will go to the Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP). For those who cannot attend the event, guests can dine at Jacks Monterey or Peter B’s Brewpub from October 1-31, 2019 and support AFRP with the purchase of a Pomeranian Lemonade with Titos Handmade Vodka, lemonade and pomegranate juice for $10. Portola Hotel & Spa will donate $1 from each Pomeranian Lemonade sale to AFRP, with 100% of proceeds donated on October 19, 2019.

In collaboration with AFRP, adorable dogs and kittens are available for adoption. Kittens are available to a qualified home for day-of adoption for $150 per kitten, and dogs for $150-$300 with a required home check appointment. All pricing includes spay or neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccinations, and animal photos and bios are available on animalfriendsrescue.org.

During the evening, Portola Hotel & Spa and Titos Vodka are hosting a formal Charity Gala to support AFRP. In an effort to garner community support to rescue and nurture, abused, abandoned and stray companion animals, the evening will include a silent auction, reception with hand-passed hors d'oeuvres, Doggie Fashion Show, three-course dinner and dancing with DJ Scott. Pricing is $75 per person, with 10% of the proceeds being donated to AFRP. Guests can purchase tickets here.

Inside the De Anza Ballroom at the Portola hotel, the doggie fashion show will begin at 6pm. Hosted by our MC for the evening, Aaron Groff, KION 5/46 News Anchor, adorable furry contestants will have the chance to compete in up to two of the four categories:

  • Tito’s Halloween Dress (Copper-black-crème & orange inspired costumes)
  • Busy as a Bee (Insect themed costumes)
  • Lookalikes (Matching dogs & owners)
  • Awesome Accessories (Hats, bandanas, ties, bows, etc.)

Judges for the evening include Steve Snider, Editor of Carmel Magazine, Deborah Luhrman, Editor and Publisher of Edible Monterey Bay Magazine and Christina-Lauren Pollack, Creator and Lifestyle Editor of Inspirations and Celebrations. The winner of each category will take home a one-night stay gift certificate to the pet-friendly Portola Hotel & Spa.

About Animal Friends Rescue Project
Founded in 1998, Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization based in Pacific Grove, CA. AFRP provides a safety net for approximately 1,200 dogs (through adoption and transport) and over 1000 cats each year. Local animal shelters partner with AFRP to rescue animals that do not stand a chance of survival in the shelter, providing medical care (including spay/neuter) and behavior training when necessary, and finally, placing the animals in good permanent homes. The organization works closely with the other animal welfare agencies in our tri-county area. The main adoption center is located in Pacific Grove, CA, and holds regular Adoption Days throughout the community. To learn more, visit animalfriendsrescue.org.
